Settlement
Settlement is the moment money actually arrives and is final in the payee's account, as opposed to when the payment was sent.
Definition
Settlement is the final step of a payment: the funds are in the payee's account and can no longer be reversed by the banks in between. Before that, a payment is only initiated or in transit.
Sent is not settled
A payment can show as sent while the funds are still moving between banks. Settlement time depends on the rail:
- Local instant schemes such as Faster Payments, Pix or SEPA Instant: usually seconds123
- Standard ACH and SEPA transfers: usually within one business day45
- SWIFT wires: many arrive the same day, but some take several business days when intermediary banks or compliance checks add delay67
- Stablecoin transfers: usually minutes, depending on the network, also on weekends and holidays8
Why it matters for creators
Creators plan around cash flow. A clear settlement time, and a status the creator can see, removes most of the "where is my money" support requests. Fast settlement is also a reason for creators to choose one partner over another.
How Talentir helps
